The Parish Council work involves reporting to S.C.C. , road conditions like pot holes blocked ditches, flooding, clearing rubbish & provision of road salt etc. & we report to T.D.B.C. on all local planning applications with site visits where applicable by Councillors. Our comments are always taken into consideration but T. Deane makes the final decision. Footpaths are cleared a.s.a.p. when reported to Councillors & the appropriate Dept. is informed when work is needed on signposts & road markings.

After several accidents, we asked for the placing of chevrons on the sharp bend on the B3227 below Fleed Knapp.

Some years ago we produced a Parish Walk Map which has proved popular with visitors.

Also we commissioned a locally made seat commemorating the Millennium, which was sited near Chipstable Cross. We have also instigated signs like ‘Unsuitable for Heavy Vehicles, cattle crossings, Chipstable nameplate etc. We are awaiting the result of a nationwide survey on village speed limits & hopefully will be successful in our application for a 30 mph from Waterrow Bridge to Waterrow Touring Park. This was first requested in Oct. 1999.

The heavy & continuous rain of the Autumn & winter of 2000 seriously undermined several roads & through lack of funds, S.C.C. has only just repaired Shute Hill Lane Waterrow. Recently, however , funds have been made available to repair serious pot holes, but S.C.C. has said that it will take many years to bring the roads back into an acceptable state.

We were heavily involved in the controversy over the footpath/ bridle way WG4/5 at Chubworthy Cross which resulted in 3 public inquiries.

Complaints of noise caused by Motor cycle scrambling were directed to the environment dept. but as the noise levels were within limits no action could be taken.

Some years ago we asked through the Parish magazine, how many people were in need of local housing. There was no response.

A Parish Warden scheme, which would have covered our rural area, advertised in the .Magazine in Aug. 2000, produced no response.

We have 2 Tree Wardens , Mr. & Mrs. Taylor who are responsible for planting the annual free trees given by T. Deane.

A Grant of £200 was made to set up a Parish Website.

We helped to set up Neighbourhood Watch & bought some signs.

We donate to organisations like the C.A.B. W.R.V.S. C.P.R.E. , & the Parish Magazine.

We have contributed £300 towards the refurbishment of the Church Hall Waterrow.

We pass on to the treasurer of the P.C.C. s the annual grant from Taunton Deane for the upkeep of the two Burial Grounds.

We also receive £100 from Taunton Deane for footpath clearance

Meetings are held at the Church Hall Waterrow on the first Wed. of every other month at 7.30.p.m.

Every one is welcome to attend, or contact the clerk or Councillors with any problems.

Issued by the parish council  6th October 2001
